This is the best chocolate cake recipe! It's perfectly moist and soft, with a velvety, decadent chocolate buttercream frosting—the stuff chocolate dreams are made of! If you love chocolate cake as much as I do, you're in for a real treat here.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (240g)
- 2 cups granulated sugar (400g)
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50g)
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup whole milk (240mL)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil (120mL)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water or hot coffee (240ml)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease 2 (9-inch) round cake pans and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl and whisk to combine.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla. Add to the dry mixture and whisk until smooth. Then add boiling water or coffee and mix well (batter will be runny).
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
- Bake 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack and cool completely.
- Assemble the cake with a layer of chocolate buttercream between layers, then coat the whole cake in frosting.
- Add chocolate shavings on top and enjoy!
